Our History

SNOW was established under the auspices of ICCC (Indo-Canadian Community Centre Inc.) in Ottawa, Canada, in 2010, by a group of like-minded women.

SNOW undertakes charitable activities and programs. These contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life for women, children, and families.

SNOW has grown to become a dynamic organization. Women meet there to interact, and engage in dialogue on social, ethical, and contemporary issues affecting women.

SNOW is a non-partisan, secular organization and membership is open to all women who support its mission.

WHAT WE DO

Since its inception, SNOW has focused its discussions, meetings, and programming on various issues. These include the prevention of violence against women, and the promotion of women’s mental health and social well-being. Additionally, women’s health issues, like heart health and nutrition, are addressed.

Our Activities

  • Issues surrounding abuse, shaming and stigmas within cultural communities;
  • mental health and well-being;
  • heart health, cancers and dietary health related issues;
  • understanding coping mechanisms and finding support in difficult situations such as the COVID pandemic;
  • accessing resources available to women for assistance in medical, social or mental health related situations;
  • learning about women who have inspired us by breaking barriers and creating opportunities for gender and cultural equity
